Oles Honchar Dnipro National University

The Department of Physical Education at DNU was established in 1934. Today, it is one of the leading centers in the Dnipropetrovsk region for educational, scientific and methodological, sports, and health-promoting activities.
Over the years, the Department has produced more than 150 Masters of Sport. Among its most distinguished graduates are Honoured Masters of Sport, including V. Yurchenko, a nine-time World and European Champion and Olympic silver medalist in canoe sprint, and R. Kurvyakova, an Olympic champion in basketball.
Grandmasters in chess include V. Rudenko and V. Boleslavskyi, multiple World Champions in chess composition.
L. Moskalenko, a multiple-time national champion and International Master of Sport, won an Olympic bronze medal in sailing.
O. Boturchuk, a multiple World and European Champion in para athletics, represented Ukraine at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, where she won three gold medals and one silver medal.
L. Hryha, a European Junior Champion in badminton and a graduate of the University, also competed at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Yu. Shliakhov won a bronze medal in diving at the World University Games, while M. Rizo became a bronze medalist at the World Kickboxing Championships.
A. Hovorov won gold medals in the 50 m butterfly at the 2015 and 2017 Summer Universiades. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the Order of Merit, Third Class, and in September 2017 was nominated for the Order of Merit, Second Class.

Today, the University has a well-developed sports infrastructure that supports 18 university representative teams in the following sports: aqua aerobics, sambo, judo, basketball (men’s, women’s, and 3×3), badminton, rowing, canoe sprint, beach volleyball (men’s and women’s), water polo (men’s and women’s), athletics, table tennis, orienteering, swimming, tennis, football, futsal (men’s and women’s), fencing, and cheerleading. In addition, the University has the capacity to operate sports clubs and sections in up to 26 different sports.

The total area of the educational and laboratory facilities is 7,565 m².
The University’s Sports Palace includes seven sports halls, a 25 × 50 m swimming pool, a children’s swimming pool, a stadium, and an outdoor sports ground.
