Kharkiv State Academy of Culture

Bursatskiy Descent, 4, Kharkiv, Kharkivs'ka oblast, Ukraine, 61000

Physical education and sports stand as a top priority within the educational and mentoring workflows of the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture. The curriculum plans for the educational and professional programs (EPP) of all specialties allocate mandatory hours to the “Physical Education” discipline, structured as 2 academic hours per week throughout the 1st and 2nd years of the first (Bachelor’s) level of higher education.

Highly qualified lecturers and an established material-technical infrastructure allow the academy to deliver physical training not only within general physical preparation groups, special medical departments, and physical rehabilitation units but also through free-of-charge specialized sports sections.

One of the focal missions of the Department of Special Piano and Social-Cultural Technologies (SPSCT) / Department of Physical Culture is to continuously refine motivational frameworks and engage higher education students in regular physical activity. This is adapted to the specific interests, preferences, talents, and individual traits of each student during mandatory physical education modules as well as in extracurricular athletic contexts.

The tools, pedagogical methods, and instructional design of the “Physical Education” discipline are systematically upgraded and modernized. This process takes into account contemporary vectors in pedagogy and sports science alongside the evolving needs to expand the physical activity levels of modern youth.

Despite the ongoing challenges of martial law, the department maintains dynamic athletic operations. Faculty members organize student cohorts and personally participate in various Kharkiv municipal, regional, and all-Ukrainian tournaments. They actively engage both education seekers and faculty of KhSAC in online charity runs, such as the “Charity Run for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” “KHARKIV City-Hero,” “Independence of Ukraine Inside Each of Us,” and “Indivisible Borders.” Furthermore, they join prominent digital wellness campaigns, including the #BeActive – Be a Winner! challenge, #EuropeanWeekofSport, and the #Whitecard initiative, alongside managing traditional athletic events within the Academy.
