Khmelnytskyi National University
Physical education and sports at Khmelnytskyi National University are an indispensable component of forming the general and professional culture of an individual in line with modern demands, preserving and enhancing health, organizing a healthy lifestyle, and elevating working capacity. Physical education and mass sports operations at the university are executed via the joint efforts of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Education and Sports and the institutional Sports Club. Highly qualified lecturers and an extensive material-technical base allow physical training to be delivered not only within general physical preparation groups but also via special medical departments, specialized athletic tracks, and dedicated sports sections.
Currently, the university cultivates the following specialized athletic profiles:
Olympic Sports: Basketball, badminton, boxing, freestyle wrestling (women’s and men’s), canoeing and kayaking, volleyball (women’s and men’s), beach volleyball, handball (men’s), track and field, rugby, table tennis, and football (women’s and men’s).
Non-Olympic Sports: Billiards (cue sports), powerlifting, futsal, and chess.
Physical culture and sports events are traditionally staged to honor Physical Culture and Sports Day, International Day of University Sport, and related milestones.
Following the results of the 19th Summer Universiade of Ukraine, Khmelnytskyi National University once again validated its status as one of the most athletic institutions in Ukraine. In the 4th category of Higher Education Institutions, with a score of 3,947.5 points, Khmelnytskyi National University secured a magnificent second place, directly following Sumy State University. An even more momentous milestone is achieving 6th place overall among all higher education institutions in Ukraine.
A vital next step in the institutional advancement of sports is the formal signing of a memorandum of understanding between Khmelnytskyi National University and the Mass Sports Agency of Ukraine. The document, signed by Rector Serhiy Matiukh and the Director of the Agency Andriy Rebryna, laid the foundations for executing joint projects in the fields of mass, collegiate, and adaptive sports, organizing elite athletic events, advancing educational initiatives, and creating new developmental avenues for students.
