Year of establishment – 1969. Pursuant to Order No. 120 of the Ministry of Education dated May 26, 1969, the Faculty of Physical Education of Lutsk State Pedagogical Institute was established. In 1987, the department of initial military training and the military department, headed by Colonel B. M. LUKASHEVYCH, were opened at the faculty.

In 1993, the military department was reorganized, and students transitioned to other fields of study. In 1993, the faculty became a constituent part of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn State University, and in 1994, the Institute of Physical Culture and Health was founded. Following the implementation of new educational standards by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine across the nation’s educational institutions, the Institute of Physical Culture and Health was renamed the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports, and Health in 2017.

Associate Professor M. Kulykivskyi, Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy, was appointed as the first part-time Dean of the faculty for the 1969/1970 academic year. Later, the deans of the Faculty of Physical Education included Associate Professors B. BALKO (1971), V. PALYHA (1976), Senior Lecturer V. FURMAN (1978), and Associate Professor V. ZAVATSKYI (1979), who attained the title of Professor in 1993 and was named a Corresponding Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences of National Progress (UANMP) in 1994. He was followed by Professor O. BUZIUN (1994), Professor Ye. PRYSTUPA (1998), Associate Professor M. MOROZ (1999), and Associate Professor O. BYCHUK (2005). Since 2019, the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports, and Health has been led by Associate Professor Vasyl PANTIK.

The educational process at the faculty is driven by highly qualified specialists, including 7 Doctors of Sciences, Professors (A. TSOS, E. VILCHKOVSKYI, N. BIELIKOVA, A. ALOSHINA, O. BYCHUK, S. ROMANCHUK, A. CHERNOZUB); 35 Candidates of Sciences (PhDs), Associate Professors; 2 Honored Workers of Science and Technology of Ukraine (Prof. A. TSOS, Prof. E. VILCHKOVSKYI); 5 Honored Coaches of Ukraine (Prof. S. ROMANCHUK, Assoc. Prof. V. YALOVYK, Assoc. Prof. R. CHERKASHYN, A. SHEVCHUK, M. MORDYK); 4 Honored Workers of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine (Prof. S. ROMANCHUK, Assoc. Prof. V. YALOVYK, Assoc. Prof. R. CHERKASHYN, A. SHEVCHUK); 15 National Category Referees, and 10 Recipients of the Excellence in Education Award.

Since its inception, the faculty has produced over 10,000 professionals in the field. Among its alumni are 2 Honored Workers of Science and Technology of Ukraine, 28 Honored Coaches of Ukraine, 17 Honored Workers of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine, 28 Olympians and Paralympians, 6 Honored Masters of Sports of the USSR and Ukraine, 28 Masters of Sports of Ukraine of International Class, 372 Masters of Sports of Ukraine, over 5,000 participants in Ukrainian, European, and World Championships, and approximately 1,400 winners and medalists of the World University Games (Universiades), as well as Ukrainian, European, and World Cups.

The faculty’s priority areas of focus include providing high-quality educational services in line with international standards; enhancing the scientific and athletic prestige of the faculty; strengthening the intellectual potential and competitiveness of its graduates; systematically modernizing and upgrading the material base; further expanding the faculty’s presence within the information landscape and market recognition both in Ukraine and abroad; deepening the role of student self-government; increasing and reinforcing the practical component of training; actively implementing international academic mobility; introducing and developing individual, distance, and e-learning models utilizing innovative scientific methodologies; and engaging domestic and international institutions to establish scientific research centers.

The Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports, and Health of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University serves as a powerful regional hub for scientific, practical, and athletic events at various levels.
