Sumy State University operates a dedicated Sports Club that ensures the continuous and proper management of mass athletic operations under the legal regime of martial law. The club executes state policy objectives in the spheres of education, youth development, and national-patriotic education, while ensuring that SumDU varsity teams seamlessly maintain their participation in all-Ukrainian and international sports events.

Athletic activities are driven by professional coaches and specialists, allowing the university to sustain a premier level of student athletic engagement while optimizing staff workloads. For three consecutive years, the university captured the 2nd place ranking at the All-Ukrainian Summer Universiades among all participating higher education institutions of Ukraine, where it was represented in 19 programming disciplines.

The sports club manages the rigorous preparation of SumDU representatives for the World University Games and the European Universities Championships. It takes an active part in physical culture, wellness, and sports events under the auspices of the Students’ Sports Union of Ukraine, implements motivational systems to draw students into sports sections, organizes career orientation workflows among school graduates and youth sports school (DYUSSH) athletes, secures the recruitment and professional development of coaching personnel, refines the athletic mastery of varsity athletes, and assists student self-government bodies in organizing and managing tournaments. Furthermore, sports club personnel provide comprehensive training and logistical accompaniment for university teams to compete in the “Side by Side” All-Ukrainian competitions for student and school youth, held under the aegis of the Program of the President of Ukraine, as well as in official athletic tournaments, vocational orientation, branding, and national-patriotic initiatives.
