The Department of Physical Education, jointly with the “Vodnik” Sports Club, executes comprehensive workflows to advance physical culture and sports among student youth, managing all mass fitness and athletic initiatives.

Annual Events Include:
The NUWEE Universiade among institutional departments across 9 sports disciplines;

The NUWEE Dormitory Campus Spartakiad across 6 sports disciplines.

Students regularly enter the Universiade among HEIs of the Rivne Region, as well as municipal and Ukrainian Championships. The university features 17 operational sports sections. Students can refine their mastery within varsity teams, preparatory departments, general physical preparation groups, or fitness classes.

Sports Disciplines and Specialized Sections:
Basketball: Cultivated at NUWEE since its founding. The men’s and women’s varsity teams compete in the Championships of Ukraine, and have repeatedly won municipal and regional titles, secured bronze and silver medals at the Western Region Championship, and won the “West” division of the Ukrainian Student Championship. The team is coached by Senior Lecturer of the Department of Physical Education and Master of Sports of Ukraine, Oleh Volodymyrovych Sotnyk.

Boxing & Kickboxing: The boxing section dates back to 1978. It has trained 20 Masters of Sports and dozens of Candidates for Master of Sports. The boxing team won the Spartakiad of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Ukrainian SSR in 1976. Kickboxing is currently surging in popularity among youth. The team is trained by Senior Lecturer Volodymyr Serhiyovych Starikov, a Master of Sports in boxing, International Category Referee in WAKO kickboxing, and Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine.

Volleyball: Practiced since the university’s inception in 1959. Between 2021 and 2024, the men’s team won four silver medals in the Amateur League of Ukraine, earned five bronze and seven silver medals in the Higher Student League of Ukraine, and placed at the Ukrainian-Polish Student Festival. The program has trained 2 Masters of Sports and 56 Candidates for Master of Sports under the leadership of Associate Professor Bohdan Dmytrovych Zubrytskyi (Head of the Department, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports) and Senior Lecturer Oleksandr Valentynovych Tsytsarkin. The NUWEE women’s volleyball team is a multi-time medalist of the HEI Spartakiad and the champion of the Rivne Region Universiade, coached by Senior Lecturer and Master of Sports of Ukraine, Oksana Petrivna Pidgurska.

Track and Field: Holds a leading position in student physical education. Over the years, elite NUWEE athletes have joined the National Track and Field Team of Ukraine, representing the nation at European and World levels. Notable alumni include Masters of Sports of International Class: Viktor Stepanskyi (shot put), Volodymyr Hudylin (hammer throw), and Andriy Skvaruk (hammer throw). Olga Zemliak is an Olympic Bronze Medalist (4x400m relay) at the 2012 London Olympic Games and an Honored Master of Sports. Nataliia Pryshchepa is a European Champion in the 800m run (Rieti, Italy) and an Honored Master of Sports. Kateryna Klymyuk competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and won a silver medal at the World Universiade.

Futsal (Mini-Football): The NUWEE varsity team was established in 2010. The squad is a perennial competitor in municipal and regional championships among HEIs, frequently claiming titles and medals under the guidance of Senior Lecturer Yuriy Fedorovych Kosobutskyi.

Table Tennis: The varsity squad is a multi-time winner and medalist of city, regional, and all-Ukrainian tournaments, trained by Senior Lecturer Vitaliy Fedorovych Pinchuk, a Candidate for Master of Sports of Ukraine and International Category Referee.

Swimming: The university team is a multi-time municipal and regional champion and a regular participant in the All-Ukrainian Universiade, coached by Senior Lecturer Viktor Volodymyrovych Pashkevych.

Football: The NUWEE “Vodnik” football varsity team competes in the Rivne Region Championship, securing podium finishes. The team has also contested the Universiade of Ukraine and the Ukrainian HEI Championship under Senior Lecturer Oleksandr Serhiyovych Hryhorovych.

Armwrestling: Established in 1990 under Honored Coach of Ukraine Yevhen Ivanovych Komarevych, the preparatory division evolved into a premier varsity team. In 2002, the team was headed by Oleksandr Yevhenovych Komarevych, an Honored Coach of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports, and International Category Referee. The program has produced 3 Masters of Sports of International Class, 21 Masters of Sports of Ukraine, and numerous Candidates for Master of Sports. Prominent alumnus Oleh Zhokh is an 11-time European and World Champion, a 7-time World Cup winner, and an Honored Master of Sports.
